Are you wondering if your radiators are big enough?
Heat loss calculations are a calculation that determines how much heat your home loses through the fabric of the building and the natural ventilation that your property requires to breathe. There are a lot of factors to consider when carrying out a heat-loss calculation on your property, and it takes into consideration insulation levels, floor area, window area, and how your home is constructed.
Heat-loss calculations are critical when designing a heating system, even more so now with installing lower-temperature heating installations. Previously heating systems were mainly installed using a 'Rule of Thumb' method, unfortunately with more advanced systems coming onto the market like air and ground source heat pumps, 'Rule of Thumb' methods are no longer suitable, and the calculations are really important to ensure that you are getting the most efficient use out of your heating system. Over 90% of the existing boilers installed are massively oversized, and commercial plant rooms are an even worse figure than this. This is because of using an old method of calculating heat loss and constantly rounding up to the next size, just to be safe, rather than carrying out a proper survey and calculating what is required. |
Existing heating system upgrades
If you are thinking of installing a lower temperature heating system like an air source heat pump or whether you are just planning on trying to run your existing heating system at a lower temperature to try and save your energy bills, Ignite Plumbing Services can provide you with a heat loss calculation which will determine whether your existing radiators are capable of heating your home at lower temperatures. With this service, we can offer you some advise on what improvements can be made and whether you can run your heating system at a lower temperature.
New Build Heat-LOss Calculations
Ignite Plumbing Services are able to offer you a heat-loss calculation service for new developments. These reports can be carried out using architect drawings and we will then provide you with a full report on what size of radiators that are required to heat your property correctly. This will also provide you with the correct size of heat generator that is required for you property to ensure that you are not installing something that is oversized and is not required.
Remote calculation
Ignite Plumbing Services can provide you with a heat-loss calculation without even having to survey your property, this can be carried out by surveying architect drawings and working out the heat loss by using this method. This isn't the most accurate way of carrying out a survey and calculation as our engineers are not getting to inspect the installed building materials and determine the correct insulation levels, but this may be help you with your project if you are outwith our normally working area.
