What is Gas Tightness Testing?
Gas Tightness testing is the method of ensuring that you have no leaks on your gas pipework or appliances. Sometimes pipework can be inaccessible and you are unable to smell if there are any leaks on the system so the only way to make sure that your gas appliances and pipework do not have any leaks on them is to carry out a tightness test. 

How is a tightness test carried out?
We measure and calculate the volume of gas within your system and work out the correct tightness test duration and pressure, this will ensure that the tightness test is being carried out at the correct pressure for the correct duration. We then attach our equipment and set the pressure to the correct calculated pressure and carry out the test for the required duration. 

Who can carry out the tightness test procedure? 
Only gas engineers that have the qualifications for Tightness testing and Purging are able to carry this procedure out in a safe and controlled manner. This follows the guidlines specified in the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers(IGEM) publications IGEM/UP/1, IGEM/UP/1A & IGEM/UP/1B. All of our commercial gas engineers are fully qualified to carry out a tightness test on Commercial and Domestic gas pipework correctly to ensure that this procedure is being carried out safely for you. 

Completion of the tightness test. 
After we have completed the tightness test correctly, we will issue you with a certificate to show that the test has been carried out correctly and that the gas pipework is safe to use and does not have any leaks. This will ensure continued safety and will ensure that you are fully compliant with the regulations and health and safety protocol. If the pipework or appliances show that there is a leak, we will advise the next best steps on how to resolve this.
