What is Gas Strength Testing?
Gas Strength testing is the method of ensuring that your gas pipework is able to withstand a higher pressure than is normally operates and is able to cope with higher pressures should the operating pressure increase, if there is a fault with a regulator. Normally this is only carried out on newly installed pipework. 

How is a strength test carried out?
We measure and calculate the strength test pressure and duration depending on your standard gas operating pressure and the maximum incidental pressure which your pipework may be subjected to, if there is a fault on the system. The pipework is then put under pressure for the calculated duration to ensure that the pipework can withstand the higher pressure and that there are no leaks or faults on the gas pipework. 

Who can carry out the strength test procedure? 
Only gas engineers that have the qualifications for Strength Testing, Tightness testing and Purging are able to carry this procedure out in a safe and controlled manner. This follows the guidlines specified in the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers(IGEM) publications IGEM/UP/1, IGEM/UP/1A & IGEM/UP/1B. All of our commercial gas engineers are fully qualified to carry out a strength test on Commercial and Domestic gas pipework correctly to ensure that this procedure is being carried out safely for you. 

Completion of the strength test. 
After we have completed the strength test correctly, we will issue you with a certificate to show that the test has been carried out correctly and that the gas pipework is safe to use and does not have any leaks. This will ensure continued safety and will ensure that you are fully compliant with the regulations and health and safety protocol. If the pipework or appliances show that there is a leak, we will advise the next best steps on how to resolve this. 

After a successful strength test, it can be followed with a Tightness Test and Gas Purge to put the pipework into operation as soon as we are completed.
